Parents of many medical aspirants on Wednesday met authorities of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences to discuss the situation in the wake of the Punjab and Haryana high court order allowing Adesh University, Bathinda, to hold its provisional counselling for MBBS seats.

The BFUHS had filled 102 seats during its centralised counselling for admission to the MBBS course from June 21 to 23, while Adesh University was allowed to hold provisional counselling to fill its own 150 seats, leaving in the lurch students admitted to medical college of Adesh University through centralised counselling.

Following the court order, Adesh University filled its seats by holding a separate counselling on June 25 and thus the fate of 102 students admitted to its college by the Baba Farid university hangs in the balance.

Aparent, Dr Bhupinder Bansal from Bathinda, said, “We met the Baba Farid university authorities at Faridkot because there is no option left before us. The Baba Farid university should not have admitted students to the medical college of Adesh University if it had approached the court. Now our children have been left in the lurch. The Baba Farid university kept us in a dark. Had it been known to us that Adesh University had also approached the court in this regard, we could have avoided admitting our children to the medical college of Adesh University.”

Dr SS Gill, vice-chancellor of Baba Farid University, said the BFUHS had filled MBBS seats as per the directions of the Punjab government. “We have selected students as per the merit list. Now all depends on the high court verdict. We will weigh legal options before us to get justice for the students already been admitted,” the V-C added.
