Accusing the state government of allocating permits to influential private transporters and exploiting employees by encouraging the contract system, the PRTC workers union, on Wednesday, observed a strike causing inconvenience to the commuters.
Addressing a rally of the employees at the bus stand here, general secretary of the union Rupinder Singh said that buses of Orbit transport company, which is owned by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, have been causing a huge loss to the PRTC as almost all routes of the PRTC have been given to the Orbit transport.

He said that the PRTC management was still allotting new permits to the company. He said that the move will also affect the commuters as private bus owners charge more on the pretext of facilities. He said that the PEPSU management was also making false promises to regularise services of contractual employees.
