More than two months after marriage, a nurse has stated that she was forced to wed her rapist.
Her husband and five other people, including the woman’s aunt, are now charged with rape and blackmailing the victim to compel her to marry against her wish. The Fazilka police have delayed arrests until full investigation.
The victim’s husband, Om Parkash, is from a village in this district. On October 14, 2012, they married at a temple in Haryana’s Panchkula town and then approached the Punjab and Haryana high court to seek police protection from their parents, saying they were opposed to the relationship.
On the court’s order, when the local police offered them security, the woman declined it, claiming that her parents had now accepted the marriage and there remained no threat to her life. On December 12, 2012, when the deputy superintendent of police asked her to take a final call on security, she said she would go with neither her husband nor her parents.
The police presented here before a magistrate, who sent her to the state protection home in Jalandhar. On December 24, 2012, the woman requested the home’s authorities to send her to her parents. Request accepted, she reached her parents on December 26.
The next day, she took a medical report to the police and lodged a complaint that on October 13, her aunt, Nimo Bai, had called her to someone’s house by trick and, there, drugged her to unconsciousness, after which Om Parkash had raped her.
She alleged that her aunt, and other suspects (Om Parkash; Ramesh Kumar; Bhemsain, and his wife, Komal; and one of their servants) told her they has shot a vulgar video of the crime and threatened to make it public if she didn’t follow their command.
It was they who got her married by force to Om Parkash and sought security on her behalf from the high court, the woman has said. Senior superintendent of police Amar Singh Chahal has confirmed the registration of rape charge. The Fazilka DSP has received a weed to submit a report on the complaint.
