Opposing the imposition of tax on agricultural land by the Centre, leaders and workers of SAD and BJP will stage a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office here on May 2.
A meeting in this regard was held under education minister Sikander Singh Maluka here on Sunday. Chief parliamentary secretary Saroop Chand Singla, MLA Darshan Singh Kotfatta, mayor Baljit Singh and other senior party leaders were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Maluka said, "In 1992, Manmohan Singh as union finance minister had claimed that these taxes would not be imposed on farmers whereas now as Prime Minister he had imposed them. The agriculture sector is already in loss and farmers are suffering."
All ruling party MLAs and around 2,000 workers from all constituencies of the district will reach here and give a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
