The district police have arrested six people in connection with the escape of gangster Rajiv Kumar alias Raja from police custody on March 10 and recovered an Innova car and the handcuffs the police had used for tying the criminal’s hands.

SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the six arrested for freeing Rajiv Kumar from police custody have been identified as Jagjivan Singh, Baljinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Lakhvir Singh and Gurdip Singh, all residents of Baja Khana in Faridkot district, and Gurbhay Singh from Harraipur in Bathinda district.

He said that police have also recovered an Innova car used by the gang to escape from the spot and the handcuffs which were used by the police to control the criminal. The police are still searching their other accomplices involved in the crime.

Raja, a resident of Ludhiana, was freed from police custody while he was being taken to Patiala from Bathinda central jail for a hearing in a case.

The gang intercepted the police vehicle on the MaurMansa road. Two head constables and a constable have already been arrested and dismissed for alleged complicity with the gang.
