In a bid to control the thefts of vehicles the Mansa police had nabbed six members of a 'Car theft Gang' who after stealing the vehicle use to change the Chassis number of that vehicle with that of another damaged vehicle.
On a tip off the police followed and traced four members of the gang initially including accusedSatwinder Singh Bind, Manpreet Singh, Sunil Kumar Rinku, and Arsh Rikhi, all of Barnala district and arrested two more accused after interrogating the arrested four.
Mansa police from District Court Barnala arrested accused Jaswinder Singh Bittu and Suresh Kumar Goggi of Barnala where they use to run a Photostat shop. Police recovered two stolen cars along with the printers, scanners, computer and other electronic equipments being used by these accused to make forged documents and RC of vehicles.
Mansa police claimed that matter came to their light when accused Arsh Rikhi along with Manpreet Singh reached mansa to complete their deal of stolen Zen car of Ludhiana.
SSP Mansa Bhupinder Singh Khattra said, "Modus operandi of the accused was quite different and surprising as they use to change the Chassis number of the vehicle and then make fake documents including Registration Certificates and Licenses. Accused Arsh Rekhi is postgraduate in MSc IT from Mumbai and had played a key role in making forged documents of vehicles by using Photoshop. All the accused have been booked under sections 379, 411, 420, 468, and 471 of Indian Penal Code and the further investigation is on as there is possibility of recovery of more vehicles. It is being investigated that if these accused have any connivance with District Transport Officials or employees in Barnala."
Accused use to theft vehicle and then change it chassis number with that of damaged or accidental vehicles. Using the computer, scanner and printer made a new RC of vehicle stolen.
