The total procurement of wheat in Faridkot distict has fallen allegedly due to the decline in the per-acre yield in comparison to the last year when the farmers were able to get a bumper yield owing to favourable weather.
"Around 4,00,133 MT wheat has been procured from the grain markets of the district so far as compared to the last year when 4,98,208 wheat had been procured till the end of the season. Last year, till this time, 4,29,803 metric tonne of wheat had been procured," said deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat.
Markfed is at the top with a procurement of 86,085 MT, followed by Punsup at 85,111 MT while the Pungrain had procured 84,133 MT. Private traders have procured only 4,575 MT, according to a press release.
