Reacting to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's remarks describing Gujarat model as a toffee model, Punjab deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, on Tuesday, said that Rahul Gandhi was a 'candy kid', who saw toffees, candies and chocolates in everything.

Sukhbir, who was here to address a public rally in support of Kulwant Singh, SAD-BJP candidate from Fatehgarh Sahib parliamentary constituency,  said, "Despite restless efforts by the Congress to present Rahul Gandhi as the youth icon to target the first-time voters, he is still behaving like a child dreaming of sweets and toffees."

Addressing a massive gathering here, Sukhbir said that Congress had done nothing in the name of development, that is why its leadership was trying to divert from the development agenda.

"As Congress's inefficient government has encouraged inflation and corruption, it is need of the hour that Congress should be knocked out from power,"  he added.

Sukhbir appealed to the people to vote for the NDA as the common man has suffered a lot by voting UPA into power for consecutive two terms. "The decade-long rule of the UPA was very troublesome for common people. This government, that has downgraded the country, has to go. Let us work for a progressive NDA government," he said.

Former Congress MP from Fatehgarh Sahib Sukhdev Singh Libra, who joined the SAD recently, said, "I had joined the Congress only to save the government of a Sikh prime minister, but later I came to know that Manmohan Singh was working like a rubber stamp. So, I decided to join SAD."

He also said that Congress has a very strong anti-Sikh and anti-Punjab lobby that did not allow Dr Singh to take any decision in favour of Punjab.
