Three booked for misappropriation of paddy

Three people, including a manager of the Central Warehousing Corporation of India, have been booked for misappropriation of paddy worth Rs. 80 lakh. Other officials of the corporation are also under scrutiny for their role in the scam.

No arrest has been made so far.

Ajitwal police station ASI Balwinder Singh said that Mawi Krishnan, assistant general manager, of the corporation's Chandigarh regional office had had submitted a complaint to the SSP in this regard. The complainant had demanded the registration of a fraud case against the local manger of the corporations' godowns, located near Nestle India Ltd, Kulwant Singh, godown in-charges Karam Singh of Moga and Mangal Singh of Ajitwal.

"During a check on October 23, the department was found that that 10, 240 bags of rice were missing form godown number 18, 20 and 31. When officials were questioned, they could explain the missing bags. So we decided to register a case against the local staff members," the complain reads.

Moga SPP Kanwaljit Singh Dhillon, said, "We have formed a special investigation team led by the DSP. No one will be spared."

Sources said that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) had allotted this paddy to the CWCI godowns for custom milling.
