A central link in all these recoveries done by the police has been that the drug, mostly poppy husk, has been seized from the state of Madhya Pradesh, which has had an bumper crop this year.
A number of women belonging to Madhya Pradesh have also been arrested with quantities of poppy husk. They used to carry the contraband via train and supply it to their handlers here.
On Saturday, the seized poppy husk was being brought from Ratlam in MP.

Poppy husk can be sold on licence in MP, but is banned in Punjab. Smugglers buy it at Rs. 800 a quintal and sell it at Rs. 1,200 per quintal. The poppy husk is being supplied in other districts of punjab through the routes that touches the borders of other states. Five women, including four from MP, have been arrested. The accused have been booked under Sections 15/25/61/85 of the NDPS Act."
Poppy husk is supplied through link roads of Punjab- Haryana instead of main roads to escape from the police. A car carrying few bags of poppy husk escorts the truck and clear its way. In case, a police barrier is seen, the attention of police is diverted to the car, while the truck carrying the huge quantity escapes.
