After the incident came to light, the Faridkot civil surgeon had formed a team of doctors to look into the matter and female foeticide was reported.

The accused doctors had pleaded innocence, claiming that they were being framed.  The woman's husband, Baltej Singh, mother Jaswant Kaur, and sisters Mohinder Kaur and Simarjeet Kaur are the other convicts. They have also been fined Rs. 10,000 each.
