Though the model code of conduct has been in force in Talwandi Sabo, yet the work of installing electric poles has been going on as usual in villages of the constituency, obviously to influence voters in favour of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu.

Surprisingly, the work is not being done under the supervision of the electricity officials but by Akali workers, who have been  coordinating with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) officials on the telephone.

When the HT team reached Pakkan Kalan village where Akali minister Ajit Singh Kohar has deployed by the party to manage the campaign, some Akali workers were toeing an electricity pole with the help of a tractor, but there was no official from the power department. HT also found a newly installed power pole in the Prajapat colony of the village.

Pretending to be an Akali workers, the HT team called up a junior engineer of the PSPCL, who confirmed that he had installed four electricity meters since morning and more will be installed till evening.
Pakkan Kalan is a major village in the constituency with more than 6,000 votes.

It was not only the power department but other departments are also working enthusiastically in all villages of Talwandi Sabo.

The HT also found unloading of some paraphernalia needed for a tent house from a tractor inside a house. Sources confirmed that it came as freebies for some community halls in the village.

Meanwhile, the construction of a new room for the gym was also started only on Monday in the village. Environment was tense in the village and no one was willing to speak out.
Similar is the situation elsewhere in the constituency where ministers are using their powers to make the administration meet requirements of the people.

"We have little option as people will get angry if we report the violation to the Election Commission. Besides, officials will not take any action as they are helpless in the hands of the Akalis," said a Congressman.

Talwandi Sabo sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Sakattar Singh Bal said that he would ask concerned officials if there was any violation of the code of conduct.
