Gurpreet Kaur (29) and her paramour Rajwant Singh (22) had been arrested for murdering Malkiyat Singh Kala of Ubbha village in February.

On the night of February 17, Malkiyat Singh had gone to bring eggs from a village shop around 8.30pm on the request of his wife Gurpreet Kaur. On way to shop, Malkiyat was stabbed six times in the chest and stomach by Gurpreet's paramour Rajwant Singh and the latter's cousin Sarabjit Singh. The body of Malkiat was found in the village next morning.

According to police, around two years back, Gurpreet Kaur developed a relationship with Rajwant Singh who is maternal cousin of Malkiyat Singh. Malkiyat had a suspicion and wanted Gurpreet to end the relationship. On the other hand, Gurpeet Kaur and Rajwant Singh wanted to get rid of Malkiyat Singh so that they can marry. Rajwant Singh along with his cousin Sarabjit Singh Sarba of Raikot planned to kill Malkiyat.

After the murder of her husband, Gurpreet Kaur turned a complainant in the case and tried to misguide police.

Speaking to HT, Mansa senior superintendent of police Narinder Bhargav said, "To kill Malkiyat, Rajwant Singh alias Raju approached his cousin Sarabjit Singh of Pheruraian village, Raikot, and they came to Mansa's Ubha village from Raikot in Ludhiana.

On the night of the crime, the two asked Gurpreet Kaur over phone to send her husband out of home. She requested Malkiyat Singh to bring some eggs from a village shop. Rajwant and Sarabjit waylaid Malkiyat Singh as he was going to the shop. Rajwant caught him from behind and Sarabjit stabbed him mercilessly with a knife."

A case against under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at police station, Joga, against unidentified accused on the statement of Gurpreet Kaur, the SSP said.

"All the three accused have been arrested and the weapon (dagger) and a motorcycle used in the crime have been recovered. A case against the three has been registered under Sections 302, 120-B and 34 of IPC," he added.
