A man allegedly killed his 35-year-old wife in the wee hours of Thursday as she had objected to his illicit relationship, police said. Harwinder Singh, a resident of Poohli village, hit his wife, Baljit Kaur, with the butt of an air-pistol. The police said following the attack, Baljit Kaur fell on an iron trunk and died on the spot. The victim is survived by a 16-year-old son.
Harwinder Singh, who remains at large, has been booked under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code on complaint of the victim's brother-in-law, Paramjit Singh. The suspect was working as a driver and was living at her in-laws house with her wife and son in Bathinda. Two days before the incident, their son had left for Poohli village in the district.
Station house officer, Kotwali police station, said, "The suspect and his wife used to quarrel often over the former's illicit relations. Harwinder hit his wife with the butt of an air pistol following which her head hit an iron trunk. We hope to arrest him soon. "
