BDS student at Adesh University alleges ragging

In an alleged incident of ragging in Adesh University in Bhucho near here, police have booked two students after a first year student of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) lodged a complaint in this regard with police.

Manjeet Arora, resident of Moga, a first year BDS student alleged that two of his seniors Tejbir Singh and Mehtab Singh who have competed BDS and are undergoing internship in the university beat him up and harassed him.

He alleged that the two beat him up on Tuesday night as he denied to do act as per their directions in which they demanded him to bow before them whenever they met him and dance. “The victim lodged a complaint at Bhucho police post immediately after the incident,” said police post in-charge Anil Panwar.

The victim alleged that when he was going back to the university after lodging the complaint, both seniors with the help of another unidentified senior beat him up and snatched his gold chain. The victim was admitted to civil hospital in the morning. A case under sections 382, 323, 341, 506 and 34 of IPC has been registered against accused students.
Panwar said a report would also be submitted to anti-ragging committee of the university on Thursday, which will take suitable action against them.
Principal dental college, Adesh University, Amanish Singh Shinh said they had suspended both the students from hostel as well as college and a committee has been constituted to inquire into the matter and necessary action will be taken against them.
He said that in the preliminary inquiry it had come to light that the clash took place between two junior and two senior students outside the university campus on a roadside dhaba, but things would be clear only after a though inquiry.
