Beas tragedy: Three missing youths yet to be traced

A day after the tragedy in which five youngsters were swept away in the Beas river, search teams failed to trace the three missing boys. Bodies of two youngsters, identified as Ashu and Bagga, had been recovered on Wednesday.

A day after the tragedy in which five youngsters were swept away in the Beas river, search teams failed to trace the three missing boys. Bodies of two youngsters, identified as Ashu and Bagga, had been recovered on Wednesday.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) reached Beas this morning and started the search operation, but till the filing of this report, there was no trace of Paramjit Singh, his brother Karamjit Singh and Bablu. Search is on downstream towards Kapurthala district and the Harike Barrage.

Amritsar deputy commissioner Varun Roojam said, “We have deputed special teams and divers. Efforts are on to trace the youngsters.” The DC said a compensation of Rs 1l akh each to the victim families has been announced.

The victims belonged to neighbouring villages of Beas.
