Rohtak parliamentarian Deepender Singh Hooda, who is the Congress candidate in the Lok Sabha elections again, will not be able to campaign actively this time due to his back problem.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Deepender Hooda said owing to long and strenuous work schedule, he has injured his backbone. In medical terminology, the condition is called (L-1, F1) slipped disc and he is currently undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, the Rohtak MP said.

"I have acute pain in my backbone. It has been damaged 40% but I can recover after long bed rest. However, this time, it is likely that I may miss active campaigning in the Lok Sabha polls," Deepender said.

His absence from ground in the poll season might have upset his supporters, but this is not the case with his virtual friends, who number in thousands on social networking sites — Facebook and Twitter.

Days before chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda came here to address party supporters to inform them that his MP-son would not be able to campaign due to severe back pain, his Facebook and Twitter friends and followers were already aware of Deepender's health and had pledged support in electioneering to him.

Though Deepender's wife Shweta and mother Asha, wife of chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, have been reaching out to electorate and supporters in different segments to seek votes, schedules of workers meeting at Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sampla and Badli were already posted online on Deepender's official page.

Few hours after Deepender posted his 24-page development report card on his Facebook page, which is being 'talked' about by 15,000 people and 'liked' by 410,037, it went viral and was 'liked' and 'shared' by hundreds of supporters who vowed to back him.

Sharing a photo of junior Hooda, one Vikas Baliana, who is 'following' the MP, tweeted: "Haryana me jisne 9 saal 24 hour me 18 hour kaam kiya h puri lagan aur mehnat se aur rest na karne ki wajah se aaj humara wo Bhai deepender singh Hooda kamar ki chot ke karan election me parchar nhi kar pa rha h isliye dosto humara hak banta h ab hum sab apne aap ko Deepender man kar door to door parchar krne me lag jaye. (If the MP who has worked round the clock for nine years in Haryana to the best of his abilities and did not mind sacrificing body rest needs support owing to his back pain, it becomes our responsibility to campaign for him)."

On Deepender's absence during the crucial period for the Lok Sabha elections campaign, one of his staunch supporters said, "His (Deepender's) wife Sweta Hooda, father and chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and mother Asha Hooda might have come out to seek votes for him amongst us, but they still can't match his appeal."
