Think twice before consuming milk, as it may contain toxins like urea, expired milk powder and other harmful chemicals that otheriwse may look pure but can cause serious health problems and can even lead to diseases like cancer and liver damage.
Despite Supreme Court's recent decision on life sentence for milk adulteration people still feel unsafe as the milk adulteration menace has gripped the district.
According to information, around 20% samples of milk and milk products, failed tests by health department in the last couple of months.
Food safety officer Sukhrao Singh said, "Milk adulteration has been on the increase and people are inventing newer ways and using various chemicals to adulterate milk."
He added that urea is one of the most commonly-used adulterant, it increases fat in the milk and can cause serious health problems.
"In Jalandhar, there is no case so far where a person had been found using chemical for adulteration but milkmen and dairies often get involved in such practices,"added Sukhrao.
