Sadiq, who was at Pahlomajra village of this district to attend a function, said he had repeatedly requested chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to allocate grants for his constituency, but to no avail.

He remembered the Punjab Assembly session of 2012 when the chief minister and the speaker had asked him to sing. "When I sang, all made fun of me and talked about violating the sanctity of the sacred house."

Seventy-two-year-old Sadiq said he was a rural singer and singing was his first love. He said his assocaition with the Congress dated back to Jawaharlal Nehru.
