Addressing a gathering at Ranipur village in Phagwara during a Punjab Joro campaign on Monday, Aam Aadmi Party’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann slammed the successive governments for their poor farming policies in the state, due to which hundreds of farmers were committing suicide every year.

Speaking to around 300 residents at the event, the MP said the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had done nothing for the welfare of farmers and the poor.

“Farmers of Punjab are committing suicide and reeling under heavy debt only because of SAD-led government’s poor policies. But deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is busy playing Holi and making fools of people with false promises,” Mann said.

He further said that real colourful and joyous Holi celebrations would only come when all farmers and labourers of the state were able to enjoy it happily. But it was not possible under the SAD-BJP regime, he added.

Mann said people were not even feeling safe in Punjab any more and were migrating to foreign countries due to poor governance of the state government.

“The situation in Punjab must change and it is only possible with a change in government. I appeal to people to boycott Akali leaders in the coming elections,” the MP added.
