Bharti sets up easy win for BECC

A brilliant bowling performance by Arun Bharti (4 wkts for 11 runs) set up an easy, eight-wicket win for Black Elephant Cricket Club (BECC), against Achievers Club, in the 2nd Heavenaz Cup open cricket meet in Patiala on Sunday.
The Achievers Club team won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the decision boomeranged as Bharti ran through the batting side with his incisive bowling. Bharti was ably supported by Beant Singh, who dismissed three batsmen for 11 runs, and Abhisek Verma, who chipped in with one wicket for four runs. For Achievers Club, SP Singh was the leading run-getter with 22 runs, while Harikrishan added 10 runs to the team’s scoreboard.
Chasing, the BECC outfit overhauled the victory target by making 83 runs for the loss of two wickets in 14.3 overs. The side was steered to victory by Jashan Bhangu, who top scored with unbeaten 43, and Naman Nagpal, who remained not out on 10. Kanwar Pal made 22 runs.
In the other match of the day, Brijmohan’s all-round performance helped Tiwana XI pip Romi XI by eight runs in a neck-andneck contest. Winning the toss, Tiwana XI opted to bat first and made 171 (all out) in 28.1 overs. While Brijmohan top scored with 36 runs, Nony was the second leading scorer with 35 runs. Sonu chipped in with 14. For Romi XI, Sandeep, Romy and H Dhiman claimed two wickets each for 22, 22 and 24 runs, respectively.
Chasing, Romi XI started off well, but lost the plot midway to get restricted to 163 for 8 in the given 30 overs. H Dhiman, who had picked up two wickets for his side earlier in the day, chipped in with the bat this time top-scoring with 46 runs. Karan Pathak (44) and Kanti Singh (38) also played well but could not save their team from defeat. For winners Tiwana XI, Brijmohan starred again, this time with the bowl, to claim three wickets for 29 runs. Tiwana picked same number of wickets while giving away 39 runs, while Ravi Ranga added one wicket to the team’s tally. Brief score: Match 1: Achievers Club: 80 all out in 26.2 overs (SP Singh 22, Arun Bharti 4 for 11, Beant Singh 3 for 11), Black Elephant Cricket Club : 83 for 2 in 14.3 overs (Jashan Bhangu 43 not out). Match 2: Tiwana XI: 171 all out in 28.1 overs (Brijmohan 36, Nony 35, Sandeep 2 for 22, Romy 2 for 22, H Dhiman 2 for 24), Romi XI: 163 for 8 in 30 overs (H Dhiman 46, Tiwana 3 for 39, Brijmohan 3 for 29).
