Bhattal demands compensation for rain-hit farmers

Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has demanded compensation for the farmers, who have suffered losses due to heavy rain in the state.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Bhattal said that the Parkash Singh Badal government should hold a special 'girdawari' to assess the damage to the wheat crop and announce compensation accordingly.

She said that with more rain predicted in the coming days, it is imperative on the part of the government to carry out an assessment of the losses in the state.

Bhattal said that it is not only wheat, vegetable crops including potato, tomato and sunflower have also been damaged due to rain and waterlogging.
