Rajbir Singh Lala, younger brother of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bhiwani Dharambir Singh, was booked on Saturday for allegedly kidnapping his own five-year-old granddaughter in Jind district.

Station house officer (SHO) of City police station in Jind district, Sandeep Hooda, told HT on Sunday that investigations were on in the case.

He said Lala and others were booked for kidnapping and trespassing.

“It is a domestic dispute between two families. Both sides have levelled charges against other. We are in process of recording statements and further action would be taken accordingly,” said the SHO.

He denied that anyone sustained serious injury in alleged kidnapping case.

Lala had unsuccessfully contested assembly polls against Congress's Kiran Choudhry from Tosham constituency.

Police said that Lala’s daughter Priyanka had married Abhimanyu Singh of Pillukhera in Jind and she died last year.

“Both families have an issue over the custody of the five-year-old daughter of Priyanka. Abhimanyu’s maternal uncle Gopi Ram has charged Lala and others for forcibly taking away the child from their custody from Urban Estate yesterday,” said the SHO, while confirming that the child was in Lala’s custody.
