In the multi-crore synthetic drug racket case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) got two accused, Sukhjit Singh Sukha and Varinder Singh Raja, on production warrants from a court till January 12 here on Thursday.
The court also directed the Nabha jail authorities to produce another accused, Manjinder Singh Bittu, on January 12 “under all circumstances” after the jail officials failed to produce him on Thursday.
Sukha and Raja were lodged here at the Nabha and Patiala jails, respectively, and the ED intends to gather information abouyt their assets and the extent of the racket that was busted with the arrests of alleged kingpin, dismissed Punjab deputy superintendent of police Jagdish Singh Bhola last year.
The ED has already quizzed some political leaders, including state revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia, in a money-laundering case related to the racket.
The court of district and sessions judge also directed the authorities concerned to produce Bhola for the hearings on February 19 and 20. In fact, Bhola’s lawyer Satish Karkara had filed two applications asking for Bhola to be brought for hearings to curb delay in proceedings.
