The police on Tuesday refuted the statement of the international drug racket kingpin, Jagdish Singh Bhola that Punjab minister Bikram Majithia was involved in the racket and said the accused was adopting "diversionary tactics" to derail the probe.

"After coming to know that a water-tight case has been made against him, Bhola was trying to affect the investigation being done against him in 13 serious cases by giving misleading statements," said Patiala senior superintendent of police Hardial Singh Mann, who also denied any political interference in the probe.

He further said apart from the Punjab Police, five other investigating agencies, including Narcotics Control Bureau, Intelligence Bureau, army intelligence, BSF intelligence and Enforcement Directorate, have also interrogated Bhola and he revealed nothing to them regarding his recent allegations. "If he had to reveal something, he could have told them (central agencies)," Mann said.

Bhola is a hardcore smuggler and is desperately trying to escape the noose of law around his neck to derail the investigation, the SSP said. "From Day One, he tried to give misleading statements to derail the investigation and hide his network. However, we managed to crack him. This has upset him and he is making baseless allegations," he added.

Rejecting the demand for a CBI probe by Bhola and political parties, the SSP said he was confident about the hard work being put in by his team and assured of taking the case to its logical end.

He said every member of his team was now more committed to take the fight against drug trafficking to its logical end so that the young generation could be saved from falling prey to the menace of drugs.
