Former Bholath MLA and Congress spokesman Sukhpal Khaira has written to the chief secretary, Punjab, about SAD MLA from Bholath Bibi Jagir Kaur having illegally constructed a boundary wall and encroached upon commercial nagar panchayat land in Begowal despite notice by the Punjab and Haryana high court in the case.
In the letter, Khaira alleged that continuous encroachment by Kaur and others has been going unnoticed right under the nose of the local administration.
"Emboldened by the government's inability to take any concrete legal action against her for brazen encroachment, Bibi Jagir Kaur and others have once again started constructing the boundary wall over the nagar panchayat land adjoining Sant Prem Singh Khalsa School. The construction work is going on in full swing despite my complaints to the Begowal nagar panchayat executive officer. Kaur has already constructed more than 1-km-long and six-foot high boundary wall on one side of the nagar panchayat land. Now, she is constructing the wall on the south-west of the nagar panchayat land," Khaira said.
Khaira informed the chief secretary that George Subh of Begowal knocked the doors of the high court in this regard. "The high court has issued notices to the Punjab government, Kapurthala deputy commissioner and others and the next date of hearing has been fixed as October 28. Despite this, Kaur has started the work."
The Congress spokesperson has urged the chief secretary to look into the matter on priority basis and get the encroachment of land stopped.
When contacted, Bibi Jagir Kaur declined to comment on the issue.
