Taking another step to bolster the women empowerment, Bibipur village of Jind district, which had received accolades for administering oath to khap panchayats to curb female foeticide, has now started official procedures to affix 'women's world' behind its name. To mark their commitment towards the social issue of gender parity, it has installed a huge gate on its entrance to perpetuate the message of ending female foeticide from the region.
Sunil Jaglan, sarpanch of Bibipur village, who has been steering the campaign said, "We have filed an application in deputy commissioner's office to affix women's world entailing village name and we are quite hopeful to materialise our dream soon."
On the reason, he said, "The village panchayat has been trying everything possible to mark the change. We started from mahakhap mahapanchayat against female foeticide in May 2012, then we moved to organise gram sabhas at our village." He said that village has a secret committee to keep a vigil on pregnant women in the village to not attempt sex determination test.
Ritu Jaglan, a female activist working for women issues in the village said, "A change has been effected. But efforts are being put up to empower women to take their decision independently and have a say in everything matter to her."
