Since only few weeks are left when canvassing for the April 30 elections will be called off, candidates for Gurdaspur parliamentary seat find it difficult to cover nearly 2,610 square kilometer expanse of the constituency.

Though the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have declared their nominees much before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the big spread of the constituency with poor infrastructure compelling the candidates to adopt touch and go policy so as to cover the maximum electorates.

AAP candidate Sucha Singh Chotepur can be seen throwing his head and torso out of the window of his moving vehicle while appealing people to vote for him, whereas BJP candidate Vinod Khanna has just started his campaign due to delayed declaration of his candidature.

For a long, the BJP remained in quandary over candidature of Khanna, as Swran Salaria also emerged as a potent and deserving candidate.

Congress candidate and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Partap Singh Bajwa has been camping in Quadian near Gurdaspur, from where he is covering both Batala and Pathankot as Gurdaspur is located in between these two major towns, while Khanna has made Pathankot his base camp and travelling miles on torn-off roads daily, it is unlikely that he will touch upon every area.

"I am a local and in regular touch with the people, so I am not feeling any problem during canvassing," said Bajwa, who had filed his nomination for the seat on Friday. When asked whether he would get less time to campaign, Bajwa said he had sufficient time and he would also campaign for other candidates, as being the chief of the Punjab Congress he had responsibility of entire state.

Though Khanna was not available for a comment, Kamal Kishan Happy of BJP claimed that Khannaji was well known to every villager and even if he missed out some of the areas people would support him.
Khanna is likely to file his nomination papers on April 9.
