Big jolt to Cong as top Patiala leaders join SAD

Congress party in Punjab on Thursday suffered a major setback as its top leaders from royal city Patiala joined Shiromani Akali Dal in the presence of SAD president and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Those who joined Shiromani Akali Dal included Ravinder Kumar Rana, former member Improvement Trust Patiala; Kamaljeet Singh, general secretary All India Rajiv Manch; Rajiv Raaji vice-president Distt Congress Committee Patiala; Sandeep Verma member Congress Committee, Patiala.

Welcoming the leaders into the SAD fold, Badal said they would all work collectively to fulfil the development mission of the state. He said top Congress leaders joining SAD was also an indication of Congress's collapse in the state and with the inclusion of these leaders, the party would become stronger in the state.

He said the SAD-BJP combine would get absolute majority in civic bodies elections by defeating its political rival with a big margin. He said Shiromani Akali Dal would give them full respect and status in the party fold.

Leaders joining SAD said they were influenced by the people friendly policies of Akali Dal and they would work hard for the grand success of SAD-BJP in the future.

Sikander Singh Maluka also welcomed the leaders and their supporters in the party.
