Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activist Bikram Singh Dhanaula, who had hit headlines for hurling a shoe at Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal filed his nomination papers for the Dhuri bypoll on Saturday.

After paying obeisance at a gurdwara, Vikram, along with his supporters, reached the office of the SDM-cum-returning officer Rajesh Dhiman and handed over his documents to him.

He said that he is contesting the election as deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had dared the AAP to contest the byelection. “As the AAP is not contesting the bypoll, I decided to take up the challenge of Sukhbir,” said Dhanaula.

In his nomination papers, Vikram has listed the FIR registered against him at Ludhiana police commissionerate for hurling a shoe at the CM. Vikram, who has mentioned that he is working as a labourer, showed Rs 80,000 as the value of his assets in the affidavit.

The Sanja Morcha candidate Simarpartap Singh Barnala will file his nomination paper on March 23, while the SAD candidate is likely to file its nomination on March 24, a day after the Prime Minister’s visit.
