Punjab Congress member Raman Bahl has welcomed the expulsion of Birender Singh from the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and how party president Sonia Gandhi has faced the controversy that former external affairs minister Natwar Singh has raised in his book.
Bahl stated here on Saturday that the style of functioning of late prime minister Indira Gandhi was reflected in the two recent decisions of her daughter-in-law, Sonia. "It is distressing that people such as Birender Singh and Natwar Singh, who have enjoyed power because of their being in the party, now betray it in its hour of crisis,"he said, adding: "The party is down but not out."
The test of leadership was in negotiating the critical period, said the Congress member, hoping that Sonia would steer the party out of trouble the way she had led it to power twice. Bahl said the expulsion of Birender Singh would only make the party stronger.
