In a letter to union railway minister Sadananda Gawda, member of parliament (MP) from Ludhiana, Ravneet Singh Bittu, has demanded to start new trains to connect Ludhiana to other cities directly.

Keeping in mind the sentiments of people from the Sikh community, Congress MP stated a new train between gurdwara Nanaksar Kaleran, Jagraon, to Sachkhand Takhat Shri Huzoor Sahib should be started to benefit pilgrims. He stated that due to no facility of train in this route, passengers have no option but to travel in buses.

He also demanded stoppage of the special train between Ferozepur and Chandigarh at Nanaksar Kaleran. “The people of the area would get benefit of this special train and will be linked to major cities like Chandigarh and Ludhiana, directly,” he said.

The special train had started on March 11 with two stoppages- one at Ludhiana and the other at Moga- from Ferozepur to Chandigarh.

Bittu stated, “Ludhiana is the largest industrial city of the state and a lot of people travel to Chandigarh every day from here. Considering a huge population of the district, at least four trains should be started between Ludhiana and Chandigarh.”

“With the commencement of these trains, government and private employees, who commute to Chandigarh from Ludhiana on every day, will be able to travel for just `20,” he added.
