Member of Parliament (MP) from Ludhiana, Ravneet Singh Bittu, has raised various issues pertaining to the development of Ludhiana railway station with railway minister Suresh Prabhu. Bittu says he has received a positive response from the minister.

Ravneet Bittu said he had sent letters to the Union minister of railways to make the city railway station a world class station, upgradate Dhandhari Kalan station, make stoppages of 10 east-bound trains at Dhandhari Kalan station to decongest Ludhiana station as people in large numbers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh reside in this part of Ludhiana. Bittu said the minister acknowledged his requests and promised to examine the matter.

Besides, the railway ministry has also been requested to use Gill railway station for loading and unloading of goods as transporters find it difficult to get it done at Ludhiana railway station due to traffic restrictions imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles by the municipal corporation (MC).

He requested the ministry for rescheduling of Ludhiana Shatabdi and to start the train in the morning, preferrably half an hour before the Amritsar Shatabdi. “A request has been made to start the train from New Delhi at around 6pm so as to reach Ludhiana by 11 pm,” said Bittu. It is pertinent to mention here that Amritsar Shatabdi starts from New Delhi at 4:30pm and reaches Ludhiana at 08:30pm.

Bittu said, “With other demands, ministry was also requested to run weekly Amritsar-Hazur Sahib Nanded train on daily basis in view of huge demand and lengthy waiting list of Daily Sachkhand Hazur Sahib train.”
