Two days after public works minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon held a press conference on expansion of Sahnewal airport, Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu attacked the newly elected BJP-led government at the centre for discontinuing the only flight between Ludhiana and Delhi.

Taking a dig at the SAD-BJP alliance Bittu said, "Are these the achhe din (good old days) that the SAD and the BJP were boasting about?"

He noted former central minister Manish Tewari had taken the initiative to launch regular flights between the city and Delhi. "He also ensured instrument landing systems were installed at the Sahnewal airport to enable planes to land and take off in low visibilty.

Expressing disappointment over the statements issued by SAD-BJP leaders for expansion of the airport Bittu said, "The state government only boasts about its plans but does nothing."

Not having an airport in the city is the biggest disadvantage for most business houses as a large number of businessmen have to hold meetings with their overseas buyers.

"Being the BJP's alliance partner, SAD should ensure flights between Ludhiana and Delhi are resumed. I'll leave no stone unturned to see to it that the city has an international airport . However, my immediate concern now is to restore air services to the national capital", Bittu added.
