The district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed the party's victory in Haryana and Maharasthra by bursting crackers, distributing sweets and raising slogans in favour of the party here.
Enthusiastic members of the party raised slogans such as "Haryana to jhanki hai, Punjab abhi baaki hai" in a bid to send a message to the party's leadership that the BJP could win in Punjab on its own, if it snaps its ties with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Punjab BJP's secretary Jitender Kalra said, "We are happy with the party's performance in Haryana and Maharashtra, and the party is capable of achieving the same results in Punjab as well."
"The grassroots level workers of the party are not happy with the working of the SAD-BJP government, therefore, we are trying to send this massage to the party high command so that the decision could be taken on time," he added.
He said, "The Modi wave helped BJP to sweep the assembly polls in Haryana. There was an undercurrent of indifference towards the Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in Haryana as senior leaders of the INLD are in jail and Congress was suffering from an anti-incumbency wave. Political analysts understand that the situation was almost the same in Punjab, and I think time has come to reassess the alliance in Punjab."
"As in Haryana, there is also a vacuum of clean politics in Punjab," he added.
