Education minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Saturday said the previous state government commercialised education during its tenure.

"Only children from backward classes, poor and labourers' families used to go government schools for education. People had built a notion that only private institutions provide good education. Committed to change this mindset, the state government will implement a good education system," Sharma said while addressing the media at PWD rest house at Barnala road here.

The education minister, who was three hours behind his scheduled arrival, said the government is more concerned towards education of women.

"The state government will provide better infrastructure and more teachers in government schools. Every child from the economically weaker section will get education under Section 134-A of the Right to Education Act. A model school will be constructed in every district. The previous government committed irregularities in teachers' requirement after which the state government had to disband the teachers' recruitment board," Sharma said.

He added that after the BJP came to power in Haryana, many scams have been busted and accused are facing trial in courts. The government will not tolerate corruption, he added.

Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate international Surajkund festival at Faridabad on February 1, 2015. "We will try to rope in Bollywood actor-couple Dharmendra and Hema Malini as the brand ambassadors of the festival."

He said the government will not resort to privatisation of Haryana Roadways because nearly 14 lakh people travel with the roadways on a daily basis and 30,000 employees are working with the department.
