BJP Kisan Morcha's nationwide call for 'rail-roko' protest to draw the attention of the Centre towards the problems of farmers got a poor response in Sangrur district as the Morcha activists blocked trains only at the Sunam railway station.

The protesting Kisan Morcha activists blocked rail traffic at Sunam, which delayed the Ludhiana-Hisar passenger train by at least one hour.

However, BJP's Sangrur district general secretary Shankar Singh claimed that the rail roko call of the Kisan Morcha got a good response in the district and the rail traffic in the area was affected for about four hours. Kisan Morcha activists sat on the railway track in Sunam and blocked rail traffic from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm, he said adding that during the protest no train reached the Sunam station.

However, BJP's Sangrur parliamentary constituency in-charge Jitender Singh Kalra said that most of the party workers from the district are busy in collecting iron from farmers of the district for 'statue of unity' proposed by Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narender Modi.
