The regional mouthpiece of women wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Durga Vahini has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre not to backtrack on the Ram Mandir issue.
The latest issue of Himalaya Dhwani also slammed the first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for allegedly not publishing Lord Rama's pictures on the manuscripts of the Constitution of India.
On the first anniversary of the Modi government, the right wing organisations have been mounting pressure on the government to fulfil its poll promise. An editorial in the magazine states the BJP, which is in majority in Parliament for the first time should, not do 'U-turn' on the Ram Mandir issue. "Since the BJP came into existence, the Ram Mandir issue has been finding place in the election manifesto of the party," the editorial said.
Cautioning the BJP government, the editorial stated that the government should not backtrack on its promise. "If the BJP fails to keep its word on the construction of the Ram Mandir this time, lakhs of people will feel betrayed," it further said.
The editorial said the people of the country had pinned hopes on Modi and he should not be afraid of some people opposing the construction of the Ram Mandir.
"This is the right opportunity as the ruling party has over 280 members in Parliament," it said, adding that the government should respect the mandate of the people. The Modi government should fulfil its promise before 2019 general election, said the editorial.
