State BJP unit is all set to initiate collection of iron pieces from across the state for the construction of 'statue of unity' in Gujarat - a dream project of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, Himachal Pradesh iron collection assisting committee, state coordinator, Jai Ram Thakur, said their party would reach out to the framers of 20,118 villages across the state from January 15 to January 26 for the collection of iron pieces and soil.

He further disclosed that a 'run for humanity' will also be organised on December 15 to mark the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel in all the district headquarters across the state to spread awareness about his contribution in freedom struggle.

He further disclosed that a daylong workshop is being organised on January 9 for the state committees of northern India for the collection of the iron pieces and soil. The statue of 'iron man' Sardar Vallabhai Patel to be installed at Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat's Vadodra district is expected to be 182 metre in height - double the height of the statue of liberty that is 93 metre high. The project is to be completed in 4 years, he added.
