The residents of Prini village will urge Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to adopt the village as done around 25 years ago by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, said local BJP MLA Govind Thakur on Thursday.

The 90th birth anniversary of Vajpayee was celebrated in Prini village, located around 4-kilometre away from Manali, as BJP leaders, supporters along with others gathered in local diety temple, rejoicing Bharat Ratna bestowed on him by the Central government. The people performed Nav Greh Puja (religious ceremony) and prayed for the well being of Vajpayee.

MLA Govind Thakur said, "This village was adopted by Vajpayee to make it a model village and during his tenure, various development projects were initiated in the area. Many times PM Modi accompanied Vajpayee to this village so he has a deep connection with the area. We will urge Modi to adopt this village."

The villagers also organised a cleanliness drive during the festivity, and traditional dance was also organised to mark the ceremony throughout the day.

Sources told Hindustan Times that the money for the Nav Greh Puja was sent from Vajpayee's house in Delhi.
