Lawlessness yet again prevailed in Amritsar when three people were injured in an alleged attack on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist, identified as Talwinder Bhatia, at around 6.30 in Tung Bala area of local Majitha road.

The victims alleged that the attackers fired 10-12 rounds and also used sharp-edged weapons.

Though Bhatia was allegedly injured by sharp-edged weapons, his nephew Hardeep Singh received a bullet injury and was said to be critical. He was rushed to a private hospital.

Police rushed to the spot after the incident, but yet to make any arrest.

The attack is seen as a result of an old rivalry, said police.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, city –2) Ketan Patil said, “Police rushed to the spot immediately and a probe was on. One person who has received bullet injury is in a private hospital.”

Some accused had been identified and police were conducting raids to nab them, he added.
On a question that how many rounds were fired, the ADCP said the detail would emerge only once the probe was completed.

Joshi condems attack

Local bodies minister Anil Joshi, who visited the spot and the hospital, condemned the attack. “This is very unfortunate, and all those involved in the attack must be nabbed immediately. This sort of lawlessness must not be tolerated,” he added.
