Farmers owing allegiance to the Bharti Kisan Union, Ekta (Dakaunda), on Monday organised a protest outside the office of the deputy commissioner here against freeze of the minimum support price of wheat by the commission for agricultural costs and prices (CACP).
The protesters submitted a memorandum address to the Prime Minister with the district administration, demanding that the CACP should immediately reassess the per quintal cost of production incurred on wheat.
Union's state president Buta Singh Burjgill and general secretary Jagmohan Singh Patiala said that protests were organised all over the state on Monday and memorandums addressed to the Prime Minister were submitted with the respective deputy commissioners.
They claimed that a farmer spend Rs 1,700 to produce one quintal of wheat and the CACP should fix the MSP accordingly.
