BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Gurdapur, Vinod Khanna, who could not secure party tickets for candidates backed by him in the Pathankot municipal corporation (MC) elections, was conspicuous by his absence in the run-up to the polls.
The actor-turned-politician, who was not available for comment, was reportedly annoyed with the party even as he has been claiming that he had not recommended any name and there was no question of his disappointment.
Local BJP leaders Sudhir Bittu and Pawan Sharma, who are always seen alongside Khanna during his visits here, had been eyeing the party ticket in MC polls. It is learnt that Khanna had also recommended their names to local MLA Ashwani Sharma, who apparently did not oblige him.
The absence of Bollywood star was, however, sought to be made up with the presence of his political aide Sumrinder Sharma, who was seen accompanying MLA Sharma to fill the gap.
After winning the Lok Sabha polls, Khanna has been rarely seen in his constituency, which always raised doubts about his relations with MLA Sharma.
When contacted, MLA Sharma refused to comment on the matter.
Most of the BJP MLAs from Pathankot district were annoyed with Khanna after he failed to join their campaign during the 2012 assembly elections. However, he had cited health reasons behind his absence.
