A bomb hoax call halted the train movement on the Pathankot-Gurdaspur-Amritsar track for an hour and a half on Thursday morning. The entire railway track was inspected to look for anything suspicious, but nothing of the sort was found and the train movement was resumed.
Gurdaspur railway station superintendent Shashi Mohan told HT that at 8.30 am the railway department’s Ferozepur control office informed the Gurdaspur railway station authorities that it was suspected that a bomb had been planted on the Gurdaspur-Sarna rail track. The control office also directed the Gurdaspur railway authorities to halt all trains immediately where they were.
Mohan said the Amritsar-Gurdaspur train was stopped at Gurdaspur at 8.45 am and the Pathankot-Amritsar train was stopped near Sarna. Personnel from the railway engineering department, Railway Track Caretakers, Government Railway Police, local Punjab Police, Railway Protection Force and officers from the Gurdaspur district administration searched the entire length of the railway track from Gurdaspur to Pathankot, but found nothing suspicious. The authorities also got searched the Gurdaspur-Amritsar railway track, but found everything in order.
SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said that after nothing objectionable was found, the movement of trains was resumed at 10.15 am. The railway authorities from the Ferozepur Control Office conveyed to the railway station authorities at Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Pathankot at 10.10 am that everything was normal on the track.
The passengers, however, were stranded for an hour and a half at the Gurdaspur railway station and at Sarna.
