A 10-year-old boy of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar suffered a head injury due to a stray bullet on Diwali night in Punjabi Bagh colony.

Akash had gone with his father Kalu, a salesman in a shoe store, to buy recharge coupon of a mobile phone from a shop when the incident occurred around 10pm on Tuesday.

He was rushed to a private hospital after his father saw him bleeding from the head. The hospital treated him and sent him home. The boy was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday after he complained of severe headache.

"I thought some cracker had hit him. When I saw my son bleeding, I rushed him to a nursing home in Model Town area. The hospital staff wrapped a bandage on his head and sent him back home," said Kalu.

"On Wednesday, Akash complained of severe headache and became unconscious. I rushed him to DMC hospital. The doctors conducted an MRI scan and found a bullet lodged in his head," he added.
Kalu said he suspected that some people standing about a liquor vend near the recharge shop might have fired a bullet that hit his son.

Inspector Satwinder Singh, SHO of Dugri police station, said that some alien particle was visible in the X-ray and MRI scan. He said police had visited the spot and were investigating the matter seriously.

It was learnt that a similar incident was reported from Bathinda on Karva Chauth, whereby a stray bullet had hit a woman in her head while she was standing on the roof of a hotel to catch a glimpse of moon. Bathinda police had arrested the accused in the case.
