In an apparent case of honour killing, it has been found that the youth, whose body was recovered from a railway track near Malout on October 14, was allegedly murdered by the brother of a girl he was in a relationship with, at Abohar.

Ritik (16), a native of local ward number 5, was found dead on a railway track near Malout, 26 km from Abohar.

Initially, the railway police considered it a case of suicide and handed over the body to the family after a postmortem.

However, later the family of the deceased alleged that Ritik was involved with a girl based in Abohar and her family could have murdered him.

A probe was then initiated and the police booked Kapil Gaba and Adesh, both residents of Malout, under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Kapil (20), the brother of the girl, allegedly confessed that he, with the help of his friend Adesh, made Ritik drink alcohol and then threw him in front of a running train, said Balwinder Singh, incharge of railway police post, Abohar.

Both the accused were taken into police custody and a local court sent them to police remand for a day.
