The police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of two brothers.

The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh, residents of Nandanpur Colony in Maqsudan. Assistant commissioner of police (north) Satish Malhotra said, “The duo had snatched a purse from Shanta Kohli of Seth Hukam Chand Colony on March 19."

“They were caught committing the crime in a CCTV camera installed outside a shop. The images were circulated to all police stations,” he added.

Malhotra said acting on a tip-off, a police party laid a trap near Sabzi Mandi in Focal Point on Saturday morning.

The police asked the accused to stop but they tried to run away and were nabbed. During search, the police recovered a purse, one mobile phone and 45 grams of smack from them. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in snatchings. They also revealed the names of their accomplices.

The ACP said a case had been registered against the two at the police station-1 under various sections of the IPC.

He said the accused would be produced in court seeking their remand to arrest their accomplices.
