Brussels effect: No visitor allowed inside Amritsar airport, security up

Security has been tightened and non-passenger and non-official entry of visitors has been banned till March 29 at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, in view of terror attacks at Brussels airport and other locations in the Belgian city.

Security has been tightened and non-passenger and non-official entry of visitors has been banned till March 29 at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, in view of terror attacks at Brussels airport and other locations in the Belgian city.

Further, confirmed the airport police station house officer (SHO), inspector Mohan Singh, no vehicles would be allowed to go close to the departure/arrival gates to pick or drop passengers; these would have to be parked in the designated space only, and the visitors can walk up to the gates.

“The outer police cordon has been made heftier while the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) has strengthened the airport security too,” he added. There is a nationwide alert at airports in particular after the Brussels attack reported to have been carried out by the Islamic State (IS) group.

There was a bomb hoax at the Chandigarh airport too on Tuesday.
