The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered five kg of heroin from the bullock cart of a farmer near a border outpost (BOP) in Ferozepur on Friday evening.

Sources said jawans of the 137 battalion of BSF, deployed at the border outpost Jagdish along the India-Pakistan border, noticed farmers returning from their fields across the fencing.

On suspicion, they stopped a farmer for search, but the latter whisked away from the spot saying he was going to call a mechanic as a tyre of his bullock cart was punctured. During search of his cart, BSF personnel seized the contraband, valued at Rs 25 crore.

With the help of the villagers, they later identified the farmer as Karnail Singh, a resident of Gandhu Kilcha village in Ferozepur. He was yet to be arrested.
