Two kg heroin, having street value of Rs 10 crore, was seized by border security force (BSF) personnel near Chhanmulla Border outpost along international border in Amritsar, officials said on Monday.
Suspicious movement of three Pakistani nationals were observed around 11 pm on Sunday, following which troops were alerted and an ambush was laid, deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of BSF, Punjab Frontier, R S Kataria said.
One of the three smugglers threw something across the fence. Immediately after, BSF troops asked them to stop, but they opened fire on the personnel, he said.
In self defence, the troops retaliated. However, the smugglers managed to escape taking cover of darkness, said Kataria .
On searching the area, the personnel recovered two kg heroin, worth Rs 10 crore, lying near the fence, said the DIG.
